NewportFed Sponsors the Inaugural Commitment to Change
Road Race
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to support and be the lead sponsor in the inaugural Commitment to Change Road Race on May 23, 2010 at the Westerly Land Trusts’s Avondale Preserve in Westerly. Commitment to Change is an alliance of social service agencies serving the Westerly, Chariho and southeastern Connecticut areas that include: Adult Day Center of Westerly, The Jonnycake Center of Westerly, W.A.R.M. Center and Wood River Health Services. Kevin M. NewportFed Donates To Stand Up For Animals
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation donated $5,000.00 to assist the organization Stand Up For Animals prepare a surgical suite within their new facility in Westerly. “We are very impressed by this new facility as well as their unending commitment to these animals.” Stated Kevin M. Stand Up For Animals is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to operate a state-of-the-art animal shelter, adoption center and regional outreach facility to promote the health and welfare of abandoned or lost pets and to educate and assist those who care for them.

NewportFed Helps Out Fairview Odd Fellows Home Of CT
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation donated $4,000.00 to the Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut for the installation of an automatic door at their facility. “David Brown, Director of Development at the Home, told us about their wish for an automatic door and how it would help many of the residents, and we were happy to be able to assist them with this project” stated Kevin McCarthy, President & CEO at NewportFed. The Fairview Odd Fellows Home of CT is a non-profit 120 bed skilled nursing care facility located in Groton, CT. Their mission is to provide residents with the best nursing care and rehabilitation services, while enhancing the quality of their life by using the latest advances in technology.

NewportFed Sponsors the Pie Run at the Newport County YMCA
NewportFed was the lead sponsor with the Newport Running Club for the annual NewportFed Pie Run which was held Thanksgiving morning at the Newport County YMCA in Middletown, RI. This year's race on, November 26, 2009, started promptly at 8:30 am. The 5 mile USATF sanctioned road race and 3 mile non-competitive walk starts and ends in front of the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road, and is a scenic course with panoramic views of Sachuest Beach. Each entrant brought one non-perishable food item to be contributed to a local food bank.

NewportFed Charitable Foundation Pledges $10,000.00 To The Oliver Hazard Perry
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation has pledged $10,000.00 over the next two years to support the Tall Ship Oliver Hazard Perry and its Education at Sea program. When it is completed in 2011, the Newport-based Oliver Hazard Perry - at 207 feet in length - will be the largest privately owned active sailing Tall Ship in the United States operated by a non-profit organization. “It is our honor and privilege to provide financial assistance to this important slice of history and wonderful educational resource for young people,” stated Kevin McCarthy, President and CEO of NewportFed.

NewportFed Hosted Shred It Day On September 26, 2009
NewportFed offered Shred-It Day again on the morning of Saturday, September 26 at four locations, Middletown, RI, Portsmouth, RI, Wakefield, RI and Pawcatuck,CT from 8:30 - 11:30 am customers brought in documents to these NewportFed branches to be securely cross-cut and shred for FREE.

NewportFed has become a major sponsor to the Wakefield Rotary Club by sponsoring the 31st Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival on July 17-18-19. “This is an annual event that we all look forward to and it is a pleasure to be able to help out and support them.” stated Kevin McCarthy, President & CEO at NewportFed. NewportFed Enters Into Stonington CT With Its Newest Location
NewportFed opened the doors and cut the ribbon May 11th of its 6th office located in Stonington Connecticut, at the Pawcatuck Farms development at 445 Liberty Street, Stonington CT, near the intersection of Rt. 2 and Rt. 49. This is a state of the art facility which features expanded parking, a full service lobby with café station, and 3 drive-thru lanes, including an envelope free ATM.
On hand to help cut the ribbon was Kevin McCarthy, President and CEO of NewportFed, Peter Rector, Chairman of the Board of Directors at NewportFed, Mildred Dion, VP and Branch Manager, Renee Bailey, Head Teller at the new location and also Edward Haberek Jr., 1st Selectmen for Stonington, Stonington Chief of Police, J. Darren Stewart and Tricia Walsh from the Mystic Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We are thrilled at opening our 6th branch location, to be expanding into a new market and to offer these new consumers another option in banking,” said Kevin McCarthy, President & CEO of NewportFed.“
McCarthy said that he is particularly proud that the building’s final design. “This is the second branch in 3 months we have completed, and they are both attractive and efficient buildings.” The finished product, he added, is a credit to both architect Peter Gutting of the firm Strategic DesignWorks, who provided the vision, and contractor Behan Brothers Inc. who executed the plans.
To celebrate, the bank will be holding a Grand Opening celebration in June, which will include weekly drawings, giveaways, and a Family Fun Day planned for June 13. In addition to the free gifts for customers, NewportFed will donate $5 to Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality, Inc (MASH) for every new checking account opened at this location for the months of May and June.

NewportFed Opens The Doors Of Its New Portsmouth Location
NewportFed opened the doors to its new offices located at the corner of East Main Road and School House Lane in Portsmouth at a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 6. The two-story stone and shingle building is a full service branch that features 15 full time employees, three drive-thru lanes, and a drive-thru ATM. The bank’s Operations Department is also located on the second floor of the new location.
“We are thrilled that the vision of our new Portsmouth branch has come to fruition,” said Kevin McCarthy, President & CEO of NewportFed. “Our Portsmouth customers have asked for a branch in their community for years, and the timing finally made sense from the bank’s perspective. The response has been tremendous. At the ribbon cutting, people kept complimenting us on the appearance of the building and thanked us for opening a location that is so convenient to their home or business. It was a great reminder of the important role and personal relationship we have with our customers.“

The NewportFed Charitable Foundation Pledges $30,000.00 For Fuel Assistance Programs Throughout The State
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation has pledged $30,000.00 to aid fuel assistance programs throughout Rhode Island. Donations have been granted to the East Bay Community Action Program in Newport, the South County Community Action Agency in Wakefield, and the Bradford Jonnycake Center in Westerly. Upon authorizing the issuance of $10,000.00 checks to each of the aforementioned organization’s fuel assistance programs, Kevin McCarthy, President and CEO of NewportFed stated, “… we take our role as corporate citizens very seriously and we recognized that this year, and in this economy, community needs are especially great. We hope this can help our local families get through the winter a bit more comfortably.”
Each of these organizations has a program in place that helps families meet the cost of heating their homes. The East Bay Community Action Program provides support to low-income clients through direct payment remittances to vendors on client’s behalf, within the service area of East Providence, Barrington, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton, Little Compton, Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport and Jamestown. “On behalf of the families that EBCAP serves, we all send a big thank you to NewportFed for its generous contribution that will help make this winter’s chill more bearable.” Stated Dennis Roy, Chief Executive Officer of the East Bay Community Action Program.
Likewise, the South County Community Action Agency provides a wide variety of social services to residents in the Towns of Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, New Shoreham, North Kingstown, Richmond, South Kingstown, Westerly and West Greenwich. They too provide assistance in paying heating/utility bills during the winter months as well as emergency shut off assistance. The Bradford Jonnycake Center provides comparable services to qualified residents of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, and Westerly, and also provides food, clothing, and household goods as well.
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation has donated over $250,000.00 to more than 175 qualified charitable organizations in 2008. It’s Board meets quarterly to review requests from qualified 501 c 3 organizations.

NewportFed Shred It Day In Wakefield Benefits The Domestic Violence Resource Center Of South County
The Wakefield branch of NewportFed held Shred It Day on November 8th and invited the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County to attend and accept donations from customers. It was extremely successful. Residents braved the drizzle to securely shred sensitive documents, and they donated over $275 and seven boxes of paper goods and household cleaners for DVRCSC’s Safe Home. NewportFed Charitable Foundation Has Joined With The Friends Of The National Wildlife Refuges Of Rhode Island
The NewportFed Charitable Foundation donated $2000.00 and has joined with the Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island, and Prescott Gustafson memorial fund to increase sustainable energy sources in our community. Currently, Sachuest Point Visitor Center on the National Wildlife Refuge of the same name has 3,000 watt system which supplies approximately 12% of the visitor center electricity. The financial support of NewportFed and the Friends’ has offset the funding challenges that have curtailed planned solar panel expansion for this refuge. |

NewportFed Helps The Potter League In Middletown
NewportFed formed a team for The Potter League event; NewportFed – Paws for a Cause. The team walked with their dogs and raised $2,120.00 for the animal shelter. The event was very successful, breaking all records - raising over $73,000 for the animals in their care! The Potter League is a private, non-profit organization located in Middletown, RI. Each year over 1,800 animals are given food, shelter, veterinary care and a second chance at new and loving homes or returned safely to their owners. Thanks to generous people who share our passion for animals, the Potter League has also been able to provide a large variety of community outreach programs, training, humane education programs and financial assistance to low-income families. |

NewportFed Hosts Their First Community Shred It Day
As a way to help the community protect themselves from identity theft and fraud, and to help the environment, NewportFed offered its’ first Shred-It Day on Saturday, May 10th from 9 -1 at three of their locations, 165 East Main Road, Middletown, R.I., 121 Old Tower Hill Road, Wakefield, R.I. and 8 Union Street, Westerly, R.I. This was a Free event and very well received by every community. NewportFed has donated $5,000.00 to the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission which was the amount needed to cover the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government “Community Problem Solving workshop” they are attending March 3 – 6. “Kevin McCarthy, President of NewportFed is definitely community-oriented, and the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission is the latest benefactor of his/their generosity.
